Take Care, Take Care, Take Care – Explosions in the Sky

I saw this bunch at the Sage (possibly the greatest music venue in the world) and they introduced themselves at the beginning of the gig and proceeded to play for 2 hours without a break in the tracks. They blended all the tracks together in a seamless symphony for guitar, without lyrics (sounds very prog, and maybe it is, but it was glorious). At the end the entire audience jumped to their feet for a standing ovation (I have seen standing ovations at the Sage before, but they are always a bit slow to start, this one was immediate), not sure if they really enjoyed it or people realised they could still get the last bus home.
In the spirit of Explosions in the Sky all the song titles are gapless. One of the best tracks, for me, is LastKnownSurroundings, a fantastic track that would almost be spoiled with the addition of lyrics. Another great track is BeComfortableCreature, ambient metal? It is amazing to think that they capture all these sounds and textures, in the main, by only using guitars. Who would have thought Fenders could cause transcendence.
Micro review; A 21st century Yes, but without keyboards, or vocals.
Hidden gem; TremblingHands

  1. I’m partial to anything a bit “Proggy” and am increasingly drawn to instrumental music So I checked this out on Spotify and loved it. Thanks for blogging this.
